As the energy storage device component, the battery is the key part of an electronic automobile. It will generate a lot of heat during charging and discharging which will cause thermal runaway of a single battery in the battery module, resulting in a very unbalanced temperature distribution between every single battery and also resulting in a property mismatch among every single battery which will affect the life span and the safety of the driver. According to the analysis of documents and research, the workings of lithium battery attenuation indicate that the useful life of a battery working under the 40℃ environment is equal to the one working under the regular temperature. But if the temperature is higher than 45℃, with the rise of temperature, the initial capacity of lithium battery will decrease gradually. When the temperature reaches 55℃, the battery capacity is only 70% of the initial capacity.
Therefore, the ideal work temperature of the lithium battery is between 20℃ and 40℃. As the lithium battery is required to work under constant temperature, the cooling system must be set up.
At present, the cooling method of an electronic battery module at home and abroad mainlycan be under following forms : air cooling , liquid cooling and heat pipe cooling
Heat dissipation principle
Air cooling can be divided into natural convection cooling and forced air convection cooling according to if there is an external cooling device. Air cooling mainly depends on the air convection to take away the heat of the battery itself to achieve the purpose of cooling.

With the development of the electronic automobile, the traditional air cooling already cannot meet the requirements of heat dissipation and therefore the cooling plate heat dissipation need to be adopted. The aim is to reduce the heat on the chip through the cooling system, as the thermal conductive performance between the chip and the cooling plate is very important. The choice of TIM decide about the effect of heat transfer from chip to cooling system and has a very important role on the overall working capability of the battery pack
Any two objects where you can see the direct contact with your eyes offer that the area of actual direct contact is only part of the interface and all the rest is a gap. The heat is transferred by thermal conduction and radiation of the air in the gap. Air is the poor conductor of heat and stops the heat transfer.
The thermal conductive gap filling material is used to fill the air gap between two rough and uneven surfaces. The thermal conductivity of this material is much larger than air and can reduce the heat barrier, the heat transferred from heater to radiator through thermal conductive material, in order to reduce the temperature and improve the life span of the radiator.
